Railroad crossing ahead sign

W10-1 / Warning signs

The round railroad advance warning sign tells you that a highway-rail crossing is ahead. Look and listen for trains, and prepare to obey the controls at the tracks. The advance sign is not the same as the crossbuck located at the crossing.

Railroad crossing ahead sign (W10-1)
A yellow circle with a black X and the letters R R.

What should you do?

Slow as needed and check for trains. Stop when crossing signals, gates or other controls require it. Do not enter unless there is space to clear every track.

A useful distinction

Never drive around a lowered gate or stop on the tracks. A quiet crossing can still have an approaching train.
