One way sign

R6-1 / Regulatory signs

A ONE WAY sign identifies a road on which traffic travels only in the direction of the arrow. Use the arrow to choose a permitted turn. Check for people crossing and for other traffic before entering.

One way sign (R6-1)
A horizontal black-and-white rectangle with ONE WAY lettering and an arrow. The example points left; other signs point right.

What should you do?

Enter only in the direction shown. When turning onto the road, check the whole intersection rather than looking only toward the expected traffic.

A useful distinction

The arrow describes the allowed direction on that road. It does not give you priority over pedestrians or vehicles already in the intersection.
