Pedestrians and Crosswalks 3/ 3
California

multimedia section.

A crosswalk is marked walkway across a road or street. Crosswalks make it safer for pedestrians to cross the street. In other words, it is a path for people to use when crossing the street.

Some crosswalks are marked with painted lines on the road, whereas others have traffic signals which show you when it is safe to cross. The majority of crosswalks are located at corners and intersections, but this is not the rule.

Some can be unmarked or are located in the middle of the block. In each case, pedestrians have the right-of-way.

When you turn right, be sure to check for pedestrians who want to cross the street and bicyclists riding next to you.
