Stop signs mean:
• Behind the stop sign at the crosswalk or stop line, come to a full stop. If you can’t see the cross street clearly enough, move forward to decide when it is safe to proceed.
• You should slow down and stop at intersection in case there is no sign or marking. Stop at the point from which you have best view of approaching traffic.

Stop. A stop sign has eight sides and is red with white letters. You must come to a full stop. You must wait until crossing vehicles and pedestrians have cleared your path. You can go only when it is safe to do so. If you cannot see traffic from your first stop, slowly move ahead and stop again before entering the intersection. Check for cross traffic and pedestrians before you go.

Signs often use symbols or pictures rather than words. Each type of sign has a special color and shape to help you easily recognize the sign at a glance.

Regulatory Signs—Prohibitive.
Traffi c signs that prohibit certain actions or movements are red in color and increase safety by controlling the fl ow of traffic through intersections.

All regulatory devices on the road tell you to stop, proceed in a certain direction, or limit your speed.
